Club Update - please read

To all of our club members,

Firstly, and most importantly, I hope everyone is in good health and keeping as fit and well as can be during this continued unprecedented lockdown period. If we can be of any assistance or you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the committee.

As you are probably aware there has been no change to the current social distancing rules that the government has invoked, so the club remains closed to all. We are keeping constant tabs on their press releases and also guidance from our sport’s governing body, England Squash. We will keep you updated once any changes are made.

The rugby club car park has now been transformed into a ‘virus testing site’ so the grounds are currently out of bounds. This is for an initial 3 month period and will be reviewed after that. We have been informed from PRUFC that should restrictions be lifted during this time, pedestrian access would be allowed for access to our squash club but parking would have to be off site. We will continue to update you in due course.

Before lockdown started I was very encouraged by the increased usage of the courts and membership was at it’s highest for over 10 years. So I can imagine you are all missing being on court playing squash, racketball and table tennis. Below are some website links from England Squash to help with adjusting to life during lockdown, please have a look.

Coronavirus support

The club committee met last Thursday (via a secure group video call) and we are still progressing with club matters during this lockdown. We are pleased to announce we have received a Bounce Back Grant from England Squash to put towards a re-opening event in due course. We discussed some initial ideas and look forward to hosting the event when it is safe and healthy to do so. All of you will be more than welcome to attend.

To help keep fit during this off-court period, we are encouraging people to keep active and mobile, whether that’s through a daily walk, run, cycle. If you’re keen for something a little more active then please have a look on Instagram and YouTube at some HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts from @witness_the_hiitness I have been doing a couple of these every week and they are great both physically and mentally, I can’t recommend them enough. There all workouts for all abilities on there and can all be done from home with no equipment required and only a couple of meter space needed.

For more updates and club news please check out our website and social media pages and add us on Instagram (penrith_squash_and_racketball), Facebook and Twitter (@PenrithSquash).

Finally may I and the rest of the committee say thank you for your continued support of our club.

Stay safe,
All the best,

Graham Silburn
Club Chairman
