Club Open Day success

It’s just over a week now since we hosted our Open Day and what a success it was!! The event, ran alongside World Squash Day on Saturday 9th October, proved to be a fantastic success especially amongst families.

To celebrate World Squash Day we wanted to open up the club to those who had never played squash before. As a result over 20 people turned up, mainly families, of which 17 went on court to be coached by County Coach, Gavin Stephenson, and other club members.

Chair Chris Lilley said: ‘It was a brilliant success, especially in the afternoon, when the majority turned up; at one point we had 10 children on one court. My thanks goes out to all those club members who gave up their time to meet and greet, do one to one coaching and demonstration games, but especially Gavin, whose experience and enthusiasm made the whole day very enjoyable for all’.

The club has rebounded well from Covid, with membership numbers increasing. We have resumed Open Nights (Wednesday evening for Racketball and Thursday evenings for squash, open to all), internal leagues and our A and B teams kick off their Cumbria league matches on Tuesday 19th October. There will be one of the teams at home every week, so pop on down to see some great competitive team matches and some of the best county players will be playing from visiting teams including Carlisle, Wigton and Windscale.

One notable success story is the Junior Club which is held every Friday afternoon. With over 20 youngsters attending, six have gone onto a county coaching program which is the first time this has happened for many years.

For those who would like more information about the club, or if you have friends/family/colleagues interested to try squash or racketball contact Chris Lilley by either emailing him or by phone 07740933989.
